Data protection for online professional development system - Career Manager
You are using or are about to register to use the Career Manager online professional development system that the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has provided for members under licensed by InfoBasis Ltd. Career Manager is powered by InfoBasis Ltd. When you use Career Manager you and other persons involved in Career Manager will be required to provide certain information which may relate to, and/or identify, you ("personal data").
The IET and InfoBasis Ltd. respect your right to privacy. Before registering and using Career Manager, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the following "Data protection and privacy statement" which will apply to any "personal data" provided by or in respect of you.
Data protection and privacy statement
The IET has been licensed by InfoBasis Ltd. to use Career Manager.
The IET and InfoBasis Ltd. respect your right to privacy. When you use Career Manager you will be required to provide certain information which may relate to, and/or identify, you (such information is referred to as "Profiled Personal Data").
Additionally, as part of the operation of Career Manager, other persons will have the right to input and access information which may relate to, and/or identify, you. Such persons will include those persons within the IET who act as verifiers of the information that you input and submit as part of the registration process (and such information is referred to as "Verified Personal Data"). Profiled Personal Data and Verified Personal Data are collectively referred to as "Personal Data".
For the purposes of applicable data protection law, the IET is the "data controller" of the Profiled Personal Data and the Verified Personal Data, InfoBasis Ltd is the "data processor" in respect of the Profiled Personal Data and the Verifier Personal Data (acting as "data processor" on behalf of the IET).
The Personal Data will be used in the manner described and outlined in Career Manager online documentation.
Responsibility
You accept that it is your responsibility to ensure that the persons you nominate to support your application are advised that their personal contact details will be held by the IET and may be shared with other person(s) supporting your application and to provide them with supporting information/literature as deemed relevant by the IET.
InfoBasis Ltd. will comply with applicable data protection law in dealing with and processing the Personal Data. It will use the Personal Data for the purposes of operating and administering Career Manager. You have the right at any time to request a copy of any Personal Data that InfoBasis Ltd. may hold about you (for which InfoBasis Ltd. may charge a small administration fee) and to have inaccuracies in that information corrected. Requests for copies of any Profiled Personal Data or Verified Personal Data should be addressed to the IET as "data controller" of such information.
The use by the IET of the Profiled Personal Data and the Verified Personal Data other than for the purposes of Career Manager will be subject to the IET’s standard data protection policy. You accept that InfoBasis Ltd. will have no responsibility to you for any such use by the IET of such Profiled Personal Data and/or Verified Personal Data.
In operating and administering Career Manager, InfoBasis Ltd. may engage third party service providers. If it does so, it will require such third party service providers to respect the privacy and confidentiality of the Personal Data and to act in accordance with applicable data protection law.
Hosting
Career Manager may be hosted on a server located outside of the United Kingdom. If this is done, it will be done pursuant to a legal agreement between InfoBasis Ltd. (or its agent) and the third party service provider on whose server Career Manager is so located which will include, in accordance with applicable data protection law, provisions requiring such third party service provider to respect your privacy and comply with applicable data protection law.
This data protection and privacy statement relates to the Career Manager system. InfoBasis Ltd. and the IET are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other websites. Any external links to other websites are clearly identifiable as such.
Cookies
In addition to the Personal Data, Career Manager retains certain statistical and other analytical information on an aggregate and non-individual specific basis of all users and browsers who visit Career Manager. This statistical and analytical information provides InfoBasis Ltd. and the IET with general and not individually specific information about the number of people who visit Career Manager; the number of people who return; where they were before they came to Career Manager, etc.
This information helps InfoBasis Ltd. and the IET monitor traffic on Career Manager so that it can manage its capacity and efficiency. It also helps to understand which parts of Career Manager are most popular and generally to assess user behaviour and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas of Career Manager.
This type of non-personal information and data can be collected through the standard operation of InfoBasis Ltd. Internet servers and logs, as well as "cookies". "Cookies" are small pieces of information, stored in simple text files, placed on your computer by a website. Cookies can be read by the website on your subsequent visits. The information stored in a cookie may relate to your browsing habits on the web page, or a unique identification number so that the website can "remember" you on your return visit.
Generally speaking, cookies do not contain personal information from which you can be identified, unless you have furnished such information to the website.
One simple way to prevent the use of cookies is to activate the facility which is available in most web browsers that enables the user to deny or accept cookies. The learning solutions and training courses mapped within this system have been chosen and mapped by staff from those available within the IET and selected third party providers. They are offered as suggestions only and are in no way recommended as meeting the needs of individual members in addressing specific competences or learning objectives. The IET would always recommend that members review all potential suppliers for training provision which is suitable for their needs before making a commitment to undertake study, and can take no responsibility for the outcome of any training or study undertaken.
